Greywacke is the exciting new solo venture of Kevin Judd, who was chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay for 25 vintages and instrumental in the international recognition which New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc enjoys today. This Pinot Gris has very ripe, concentrated fruit, which has created an opulent style with aromas of yellow apples, figs and nectarines. The palate is generous and textural with flavours of freshly dried apricots and doughy wild fermentation complexity. It is a long, full-flavoured wine that finishes with a faint hint of sweetness.
"This is a rich perhaps Alsace-style Pinot Gris with lovely aromatics, some delightfully nutty wild yeast character, good weight and definition on the palate too." 90 points, Tom Cannavan - wine-pages.com, March 2013
"Kevin Judd helped establish Cloudy Bay before setting up his new venture, where he's already making some of the country's best chardonnay and sauvignon. His fabulous pinot gris is a heady cocktail of sweet spice, white flowers and apricots." David Williams, The Observer - The Guardian, March 2013
