Another exciting new entry to our list is from Chile’s newest and most radical cool climate area, San Antonio’s Leyda County. The 620 hectare site of Amaral borders the Maipo River and the Pacific Ocean. The Humboldt current brings cold winds from the Pacific, and the site benefits from maritime breezes, fog and cold evening temperatures. The wines produced here are described by winemaker Jaime De La Cerda as ”Whites from the Edge” as they owe their crisp acidity to the strong coastal influences here. This summery rose is bright cherry red in colour with a vibrant, fresh nose abundant with strawberry and raspberry aromas. The palate is of medium weight and packed with a summer compote of ripe red fruit and there's a dash of pink grapefruit citrus acidity to balance the lushness and keep the wine bright and refreshing. It is the perfect summer drinking wine, and would be great with full flavoured fish or spicy, Eastern influenced dishes and seafood.
