Bodegas San Alejandro is a co-operative with 1200 hectares of vineyard in Calatayud, 87 km southwest of Zaragoz in Aragon. The vineyards and long growing season in this area attracted French consultant Jean-Michel Lafage and his team (of Ch St Roch) and they were so impressed by the quality of the fruit coming into this co-op from its 350 growers, that they decided to develop their own brand, Las Rocas. The quality of their Garnacha is particularly high here and accounts for over 50% of their production. This 100% Garnacha has a good depth of ruby red colour with an attractive spicy strawberry nose. On the palate it is juicy and exuberant, with youthful ripe fruit and tannins nicely rounded out by the judicious touch of oak ageing. Good length and a lively, juicy fruit finish.
