Rioja Reserva Garnacha 1998
This is the best wine produced by Bagordi. The fantastic garnacha (grenache) grape, old and wise has adapted perfectly to the climate and poorest soils. The short gnarled vines have struggled against all elements for over sixty five years to offer the finest grapes possible. Delicately picked and carried in small trays back to the winery where meticulous vinification occurs. Fourteen months of ageing in the best Aliere French oak casks and two more years of well-earned rest in the bottle do the rest. The looks: Very bright, medium-depth cherry-red. Purple hues show it still maintains a youthful nature. The nose: Deep, very deep elegant aromas. Dominates by red berries on a mineral, spicy background with notes of clove and black pepper. The wood is subtle and delicate, in perfect harmony with varietal aromas. In your mouth: Great structure. Very round , with sweet tannins that are not overwhelming, allowing room for full, sumptuous sensations. The incredibly long aftertaste, brings back the minerals and fruits that we smelled earlier. This is the ultimate Grenache-based wine for the most demanding connoisseur. Enjoy this wine with any great food you might imagine. Serving temperature at 18C.
