The Allegrini family estate encompasses 80 hectares of vineyard situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area. The family has been growing grapes in Valpolicella for several generations, and the estate in its current form was founded by Giovanni Allegrini. When he died in 1983, it passed to his three children who ran it together until Walter’s death in July 2003. Franco now looks after the vineyards and is the winemaker, and Marilisa is director of marketing.  In the 2007 vintage, Franco finally gave up waiting for the laws to change and bottled the Valpolicella under Stelvin in order to eliminate as much as possible the dual irritations of cork taint and random oxidation. He has sacrificed the Classico status of the wine in favour of preserving its purity and vibrancy of fruit and we are delighted with his decision!   This is bright, youthful cherry-red in colour, with open perfumes of ripe, slightly spiced cherries, the characteristic perfume of good young Valpolicella. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, with sweet, ripe fruit flavours which bolster the juicy, fresh acidity and soft, rounded tannins.
