We are delighted with the success of the Viña Cerrada range, which we introduced in 2006. These exceptional value Riojas are produced by the venerable Rioja Vega company, which was founded by Don Felípe Ugalde in 1882 and which is now part of the Príncipe de Viana group. The wines are fruit-driven and approachable, and reflect the new wave of modern winemaking that is replacing the more traditional style of the past. "Crianza" is the term given to a Spanish wine that has received a minimum of 2 years ageing with at least 6 months in oak. A bouquet of wild black fruit is fused with cinnamon and a toasty, buttery aroma followed by a long, fruity, velvety palate. This 'Rioja Crianza' is a very intense ruby red colour with a bouquet of ripe black fruit (blackberry and plum) fused with toast, cinnamon, caramel and butter aromas. A very well structured palate with a velvety mouth-feel and a balanced expression of fruit and oak flavours. Supple tannins with a long finish. This wine will compliment a diverse range of food styles including roast game with fruit based sauces, roasted red and white meats, medium and full bodied cheeses.
