Domaine Grapillon d'Or has remained in the Chauvet family since 1806, and the 36 acre Domaine is currently owned and run by father and daughter team of Bernard and Céline Chauvet. In 2012 the Domaine was awarded the highest accoalde "Laureat du Prix d'Excellence 2012" chosen from all the wines in the Rhone Valley. The award was given because of the Domaine winning the most Gold Medals at the "Concours General Agricole" for the last three years. Praise indeed! This wine is produced from low yield vines, with hand-harvested and sorted grapes, which are macerated for 20-25 days to obtain maximum concentration and aromas.
This ruby red wine has powerful aromas of red fruits, black pepper and liquorice, with a concentrated core of black fruit with a balancing freshness and fine tannins. 12 months ageing in Oak barrels serves to soften the tannins and result in a rounded and smooth wine. Rich and elegant, with a very long finish, this wine is an essential for Rhone fans. Pair with leg of lamb, beef in wine sauce, or even a truffle omelette. Enjoy either now or until 2023.
"I loved the 2013 Gigondas, and this classic blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah offers beautiful, deep, rich and layered notes of blackberries, like, currants, roasted herbs and licorice to go with a beautifully concentrated, textured profile the palate that just begs to be drunk. Brought up almost all in old oak barrels, it’s worth a multi-bottle purchase and will have a decade of longevity." 92pts - Jeb Dunnock, Robert Parker's Wine Advocatemore ↓ less ↑
