Chateau Paloumey Haut-Medoc 2001
Martine Cazeneuve took over this down-at-heel property in 1990 and has worked wonders, exploiting its wonderful site on the gravel slopes of Plate de la Lagune. The chateau was well known before the Second World War and was classified as a cru bourgeois supérieur in 1932. But after the war the wine estate fell into less interested hands and when Martine bought it there was not a single vine left. Much hard sweat and toil paid off when in June 2003 the chateau regained its classification. from the beginning, Martine took an ambitious stand: to follow a strict Grand Cru policy and make wines which had the potential of becoming one of the finest of the appellation. Decanter magazines tasting notes read: Quite rich, solid, concentrated, plenty of fruit here, ripe tannin, spicy and complex.
