Since its inaugural vintage in 1987, The Menzies, named after Sir Robert Menzies, politician and red wine enthusiast, has continued to grow in stature and quality. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used for The Menzies are estate grown at Yalumba's Coonawarra vineyard, an exceptional site in the heart of Coonawarra's legendary terra rossa strip. Yalumba ‘The Cigar’ is a sibling to ‘The Menzies’, this wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from The Menzies Estate vineyards. Named for the unique cigar-shaped strip of rich red terra rossa soil which defines Coonawarra’s wine region. Today, Coonawarra vineyard land is prized like a precious gem.

The Cigar shows an intense complex bouquet of cherries and dark chocolate. There is lavender perfume and a touch of dried sage. The palate is typical of Menzies "The Cigar" wines, opening with a burst of plush ripe fruit reminiscent of mulberry compote. These fruit characters build the wine in the mid palate where they are met with a complex hint of ironstone. This vintage offers great length and the wine finishes with fruit and fine emery tannins. Superb wine for game meats - particuarly tasty with roast duck- rich casseroles or heavy stews. Enjoy to 2025.
