Slurp.co.uk Sales Boosted as Online Wine Sales Surge over Christmas
Slurp.co.uk – the UK’s fastest growing online wine retailer with almost 4,000 products – today announced that Q4 (Oct to Dec) 2009 sales had jumped 460% from the same period in 2008, with the number of customer orders more than tripling. Almost 50% of the Q4 2009 total came in the first three weeks of December, in a last minute stampede of online wine and Champagne buying. As well as benefitting from slightly looser purse strings on luxury items like fine wine this Christmas, Slurp also received a lot of online orders from people unable or unwilling to shop for wine on the high street due to the poor weather.
The company’s Managing Director Dr Jeremy Howard said:
“A number of customers told us that they simply didn’t want to risk struggling down the high street or through icy car parks with armfuls of very heavy and very breakable glass. People simply stayed in, turned up the heating and got out the laptop for some online shopping! We certainly noticed a correlation between the particularly snowy days and web traffic / order volumes – especially when the snow affected the south east of the country.”
Slurp did not experience any delays or additional breakage volumes in the snow – despite the dramatic increase in shipments made.
