Chateau Les Ormes de Pez St Estephe 2003
Château Les Ormes de Pez is one of St-Estèphe's leading Cru Bourgeois properties. It was bought by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1936 and is now owned and run by Jean-Michel Cazes. The latter owns Lynch-Bages and also manages Château Pichon Longueville Baron. The estate is located just outside the village of Pez in the northern part of the St-Estèphe commune. Rich and generous, the wines from this estate have always been popular with Bordeaux buyers seeking quality at an affordable price.
Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate writes:
"More restrained than some of its St-Estèphe peers, this offering exhibits a deep saturated ruby/plum/purple color as well as a sweet nose of black fruits and earth, medium body, decent acidity, fine flesh, and good follow through on the palate. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Franc, it will drink well for ten years."
And what do we think? The best we've ever tasted.
